Monolithic natural stone furniture after Milan Design Week 2026

Milan Design Week 2026 returned stone to the centre of collectible furniture and entire interiors, but a monolithic look can come from very different constructions. Alex Zheng reads the material through full faces, edges, end grain, mineral depth, translucency, support, joints, and touch. Marble, travertine, onyx, quartzite, and sintered surfaces can each serve a design, yet only an honest section and full-scale mockup reveal whether the object is a carved mass, assembled natural stone, or thin cladding around another structure.
